Training
Before entering a classroom, our Rock Stars attend an hour-long training session where we give them the tools they need to help at-risk students complete their daily assignments. At the training, Rock Stars learn the ins and outs of our program and best practices for working with students and teachers. We make sure our Rock Stars know what to expect from the moment they enter a school until the end of their tutoring session.

Tutoring
Once in the school, Rock Stars travel to classrooms in small groups and work with one to three students on a diverse range of assignments. Based on classroom needs, our Rock Stars can work with students inside or outside of the classroom or by "floating" from student to student during the class period. By providing individualized attention and modeling good learning behavior, Rock Stars give students the support they need to set homework goals, complete assignments and develop a life-long love of learning.

Evaluation
After the class period, tutors reflect on the session together, discussing success stories and opportunities for growth. Rock Stars also record their interactions with students in a Tutor Interaction Data Sheet (TIDS) before they leave the school. This data helps us evaluate and assess our effectiveness in the classroom and improve training for our Rock Stars in order to meet our criteria for success.

A brief history

In 2009, a group of creative community members started Rock Star Supply Co. to improve educational outcomes for Twin Cities teens by involving local college students and engaging professionals in a tutoring program. Today, Rock Star Supply Co. provides local teens with one-on-one or one-on-some tutoring support in all subject areas. Rock Star Supply Co.'s program model consists of training our Rock Star tutors, placing them into the classroom by partnering with schools and teachers, and evaluating the effectiveness and outcomes of these tutoring sessions.We offer our program, free of charge, to schools in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
